Recovery Housing Waitlist: Tell Us Where You Need It

Smart Step's recovery residences are in metro Atlanta today. Where we open next depends on where people need us — and this waitlist is how we decide. Tell us your county and what would help. You'll be the first to know when a home opens you can reach, and you'll get Georgia's recovery resources right now.

What joining the recovery housing waitlist gets you

First to know

When a Smart Step home opens in or near your county, people on this list hear before it's announced anywhere else — and get first call on a bed.

Resources today

The moment you sign up: Georgia's recovery meetings, legal aid, food, employment help, and crisis lines — statewide, free.

A say in where we build

Every sign-up is a vote. Counties with the most people waiting move up the list for the next home.

No strings

This isn't an application and there's no eligibility check. Give us a county and one way to reach you. That's it.

Who is this for?
What would help most? (tick any)

Give us an email or a phone — one is enough. We only use it to tell you about housing near you.

Who the waitlist is for

  • Someone looking for structured recovery housing — what many people search for as sober living — outside metro Atlanta.
  • A family member searching on behalf of a loved one who isn't ready to apply yet.
  • A caseworker, probation officer, hospital, or recovery program with clients who need housing where none exists yet.
  • Anyone who can't relocate to metro Atlanta today but wants to be first in line when that changes.

Already in metro Atlanta, or able to move there? Apply for housing instead — that's the faster path to a bed.

Where Smart Step is — and isn't — today

Smart Step's home county is Gwinnett, and the program serves residents from across metro Atlanta: Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb, Gwinnett, Hall, Forsyth, Cherokee, Clayton, and Henry counties. If you're in one of those, apply rather than wait. Smart Step does not yet operate in the rest of Georgia — each county below has its own page with local resources, and each carries this same form pre-filled for that county:

What happens after you sign up

  • You see the resources immediately — no email to wait for.
  • Your county goes on the demand board Smart Step's team uses to decide where to open next.
  • When a home opens you can reach, you hear before anyone else, at the email or phone you gave.
  • Nothing else. We don't share the list, and we only contact you about housing near you.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as applying for housing?
No. Applying is for people who can live in metro Atlanta now — it involves intake and eligibility. The waitlist is for people who need housing where Smart Step doesn't operate yet. If you can relocate to metro Atlanta, apply instead; it's faster.
Does joining the waitlist guarantee a bed?
No — and we won't pretend otherwise. It guarantees you hear first when a home opens near you, and that your county counts toward where Smart Step opens next. Beds are offered through the normal application when a home exists.
How long until Smart Step opens in my county?
We don't publish timelines because we don't invent them. Opening a home depends on a property, a partner, and enough people waiting. The more people from a county on this list, the sooner it moves up.
Can I sign up someone else — a client, a family member?
Yes. Choose who it's for on the form. Use your own contact details if the person would rather not be contacted directly; you'll get the update and can pass it on.
What do you do with my information?
It's used to rank counties by demand and to reach you about housing near you — nothing else. It isn't sold or shared. See the privacy policy for the full picture.
